First, it was the editor's cape. You know the look: oh-so-casually wearing your coat perched atop your shoulders without your arms slung through the sleeves.

It created a cool breeze for your 'pits, left your arms free to text (at waist-level only— you cannot raise your arms in editors' shoulders), but most importantly, it would instantly get you snapped on the street style circuit. But alas, all good things must come to an end. The restrictive look is fading away in favor of a laid back alternative: the shrugged shoulder.

This look can be traced directly to Demna Gvasalia's debut collection for Balenciaga, where he showed the style on several looks. Since then, it has evolved into wearer's choice, thanks to editors and bloggers and fashionistas who DIY the look with bombers, denim jackets, wool coats, and everything in between. This fashion month, it's spread like wildfire.
